The film

A deeply human account of what happens after escape, when safety is complicated by waiting, uncertainty and the loss of home.

Journey of Hope follows Iranian women and men whose lives have been reshaped by forced displacement. Having left Iran after experiences of oppression, discrimination and violence, they arrive in the United Kingdom expecting safety, only to encounter a different kind of uncertainty.

The film stays close to the people living these consequences. First-person testimonies reveal the emotional weight of waiting, the difficulty of starting again and the tension between physical safety and the loss of familiarity, community and belonging.

By centring dignity and agency, the documentary asks what freedom means after escape and what it takes to create a future when so much of the past has been left behind.

“People who are discussed constantly in political debates are too rarely heard on their own terms.”
